Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) has opened new facilities in Al Badeea, Al Barashi, for the 2024-2025 academic year, serving students with disabilities.
The first phase includes the General Administration, Al Wafa School for Capacity Development, the Severe Disabilities Centre, and the Sharjah Autism Centre. These facilities are designed with innovative, eco-friendly approaches, adhering to global best practices for inclusivity and accessibility.
Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, SCHS Chairperson, praised the project’s collaborative efforts as a reflection of Sheikh Sultan’s visionary leadership. She emphasized that this phase demonstrates SCHS’s commitment to high-quality services and strong partnerships. SCHS is recognized as a leader in supporting people with disabilities and plans to expand with a future comprehensive complex.
Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, SCHS Director-General, stated that the first phase covers 100,000 square meters of a 575,000-square-meter plot donated by the Ruler of Sharjah. The project meets growing demand and future needs, aligning with international best practices in education and rehabilitation. The second phase will include 14 additional buildings, such as a sports complex, mosque, and treatment center.
The first phase cost approximately AED 173 million, funded by the UAE President (AED 80 million), Bank of Sharjah (AED 30 million), and SCHS (AED 63 million) for construction, consulting, and furnishing.
Key facilities include an administration building, a library with state-of-the-art inclusive resources, educational buildings for the Sharjah Autism Centre and Al Wafa School, and areas for life skills development, treatment, play, and outdoor activities.
This development completes the first phase of a project supported by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, in line with initiatives by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
