Sharjah: The Sharjah Finance Department (SFD) officially launched its Cyber Defence Centre, marking a significant step in enhancing its information security infrastructure and safeguarding vital digital assets.
The inauguration ceremony, led by Sheikh Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Finance Department, was attended by Saqar Al Ali, Director of the Information Security Office at the SFD, along with other department directors and employees.
Sheikh Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi highlighted that the Cyber Defence Centre, which began experimental operations in 2023, is now fully operational with a clear mandate to support SFD’s affiliated departments and offices. The centre’s primary goals are to address the increasing cyber threats and ensure the highest levels of digital security across the department. “These growing risks necessitate continuous efforts and sustainable investments to enhance our capabilities in cyber and electronic security,” he said.
The centre is equipped with advanced technologies and a team of specialists trained to proactively manage potential cyber threats. These experts monitor and analyze threats in real-time, offering the necessary support to mitigate and respond effectively.
Sheikh Rashid also emphasized the centre’s role in developing national expertise in cybersecurity. It will provide specialized training to build a skilled workforce in this critical field. Additionally, the centre will focus on raising awareness about cybersecurity among individuals and institutions, providing ongoing guidance on protecting data from various threats.
Saqar Al Ali, Director of Information Security at the SFD, underscored the rise in cyberattacks globally, attributing it to rapid digital transformation and increased reliance on digital systems. “This necessitates updating cybersecurity strategies to keep pace with new threats and potential risks,” he noted.
