Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a project aimed at improving access points for four neighborhoods. This project comes in line with leadership directives to enhance residents’ quality of life, support urban expansion, and improve infrastructure.
The upgrades, located along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and Hessa Street, will improve connectivity to Nadd Hessa, Al Awir 1, Al Barsha South, and Wadi Al Safa 3. Upon completion, these access points are expected to increase capacity by 50% to 80%.
Over 400,000 residents to benefit
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, emphasized that the project reflects RTA’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, including road networks, lighting, and stormwater drainage, to accommodate rising traffic volumes.
The new entry and exit points are expected to benefit over 400,000 residents, with the project involving comprehensive roadworks and traffic solutions to improve mobility for residents and visitors alike.
Nadd Hessa Improvements
The project will include a new entry and exit for Nadd Hessa from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, with two lanes capable of accommodating 6,000 vehicles per hour.
This will serve Nadd Hessa, Warsan 4, Hessa Gardens, and Dubai Silicon Oasis, which together have a population exceeding 300,000.
The work extends from the service road parallel to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to its intersection with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.
A two-lane road and a roundabout for access to both Nadd Hessa and Dubai Silicon Oasis will be constructed, and a signalized junction will reduce travel time by 80%, from 138 seconds to 37 seconds.

Al Awir 1 Enhancements
A 7.5 km road will be built to connect Al Awir 1 to Emirates Road, providing direct access for this community of over 50,000 residents. The new entry and exit points will double capacity, increasing from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour.
Al Barsha South Developments
As part of the Hessa Street Development Project, Al Barsha South will benefit from traffic improvements, including a third left-turn lane at the Hessa Street and Al Barsha South intersection.
Additionally, Hessa Street will be widened by two lanes over a 1,114-meter stretch, improving traffic flow from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Khail Road. This expansion will increase traffic capacity from 6,000 to 9,000 vehicles per hour and reduce wait times at signals from four minutes to one.
Wadi Al Safa 3 Enhancements
For Wadi Al Safa 3, a new access point from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road will be created, along with 4 km of internal roads and new entry points. This will reduce travel distance by 10 km and cut travel time from 10 minutes to just two.
Al Warqa Upgrades
RTA is also working on a project to improve access to Al Warqa, creating a direct entry and exit from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. This includes an 8 km expansion of the internal road network to manage increasing traffic.
The project is expected to increase capacity by 5,000 vehicles per hour, reduce travel time by 80% (from 20 minutes to 3.5 minutes), and shorten travel distances from 5.7 km to 1.5 km.
The work will benefit over 350,000 residents and is scheduled for completion within a year.
The project will also enhance Al Warqa 1 Street, upgrade existing roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections, and develop internal roads in Al Warqa 3 and 4, alongside a 16 km cycling track to connect with nearby routes.
By upgrading access points and road networks, RTA aims to provide smoother, more efficient travel for residents and visitors, ultimately contributing to the city’s growth and the well-being of its communities.
