Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has officially launched a new taxi-sharing pilot service to facilitate shared rides between Ibn Battuta Centre in Dubai and Al Wahda Centre in Abu Dhabi.
The initiative aims to provide a convenient, fast, and cost-effective transportation option for passengers. The pilot program will run for six months, with plans to expand to additional locations based on the service’s performance and outcomes.
Key Features of the Service:
Route Selection: The choice of Ibn Battuta Centre and Al Wahda Centre was based on a thorough analysis of potential routes for shared taxi services, focusing on high-traffic areas frequently used by commuters.
Cost Reduction: The service aims to significantly lower travel expenses, offering savings of up to 75 percent for passengers. When four passengers share a single taxi, each individual pays only AED 66, a substantial reduction compared to the full fare.
Fare Structure:
- AED 132 per passenger for two riders.
- AED 88 per passenger when three riders share the taxi.
The taxi-sharing option is particularly advantageous for frequent commuters traveling between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, offering enhanced accessibility and flexibility. Passengers can pay their fares easily via bank cards or nol cards.
The RTA aims to mitigate traffic congestion by promoting the use of shared rides, thereby reducing the number of vehicles on the road. This initiative will not only contribute to lowering carbon emissions but will also help limit the prevalence of unlicensed transport services.
Passengers can expect safe, smooth, and comfortable rides in RTA taxis, which are equipped with state-of-the-art safety features, including surveillance cameras connected to the Operations Control Center and performance monitoring systems for drivers.
Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency of RTA, commented that, “This taxi-sharing service is a strategic move to lower travel costs for commuters between Dubai and Abu Dhabi while enhancing the overall efficiency of our public transport system. We are committed to promoting shared rides as a sustainable alternative for our residents.”
As the pilot program progresses, the RTA is optimistic about its success and the potential for further expansion of similar services across the region.
