Abu Dhabi: The Arab Youth Council for Climate Change, in collaboration with the Federal Youth Authority, recently hosted a session titled “Road to COP29: The Importance of Cross-Sectoral Partnerships.” This event, part of the second cohort’s training programme, focused on the role of partnerships in addressing climate change and the contributions of youth in promoting sustainability.
Khaled Al Nuaimi, Acting Director of the Federal Youth Foundation, and Bérangère Boëll, United Nations Resident Coordinator for the UAE, spoke at the event, which was moderated by Rakan Alonazi, a member of the Arab Youth Council for Climate Change.
Khaled Al Nuaimi highlighted the impact of youth participation in COP28, particularly through the Climate Delegates Program, which included 100 young people from various countries, especially those most affected by climate change. This initiative aimed to enhance the role of youth in achieving sustainable development goals and to increase their understanding of climate challenges faced by countries needing international support.
Al Nuaimi emphasized the importance of youth initiative, encouraging young people to seek opportunities, focus on qualifications, and build relationships within their communities to achieve sustainable development goals.
Bérangère Boëll stressed the need for collaboration across sectors to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, including public and private entities, as well as individual contributions through volunteer work. She encouraged youth to engage in ongoing research, communication, and leadership development.
The third day of the training forum included workshops and brainstorming sessions led by climate action experts, aiming to enhance the skills of Arab Youth Council members. The Authority of Social Contributions – Ma’an also highlighted its voluntary community initiatives in Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain and Al Dhafra regions.
The training programme involves 12 participants from 10 Arab countries, providing expertise in environment, sustainability, and climate change through training, studies on global youth initiatives, field visits to institutions, and meetings with climate action leaders.
