Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has introduced the ‘Our Green Emirates’ initiative as part of the ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Program.
The initiative aims to inspire individuals, families, government entities, and private sector organizations across the UAE to participate in greening efforts through collaborative events and competitions.
The launch of ‘Our Green Emirates’ coincides with the annual ‘Planting Week’, a campaign designed to raise awareness about the importance of preserving and expanding green spaces. This year’s ‘Planting Week’ began with impactful events in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, emphasizing community participation in greening efforts.
The ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Program, primarily focuses on expanding green spaces, enhancing food security, fostering public-private partnerships, and promoting sustainability across the country.
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, highlighted that, “‘Our Green Emirates’ encourages everyone to embrace planting as a lifestyle, fostering a stronger connection with nature. This initiative, alongside ‘Planting Week,’ honors the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who championed efforts to green the UAE and boost local agriculture.”
In Fujairah, school students, in collaboration with the Fujairah Environment Authority, planted native tree species in the UAE Flag Yard area. Attendees included Asilah Al Mualla, Director-General of Fujairah Environment Authority, and Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Undersecretary for Sustainable Communities Sector at MOCCAE.
In Ras Al Khaimah, a new park was inaugurated in Wadi Isfani, with participation from local residents and students. The event, held in partnership with the Public Services Department and the Emirates Red Crescent, was attended by Eng. Khalid Fadel Al Ali, Director-General of the Public Services Department in Ras Al Khaimah, alongside MOCCAE representatives.
In the coming days, ‘Planting Week’ will continue across the UAE, engaging community members in planting native trees and providing training in care and propagation techniques.
