Abu Dhabi: The National Library and Archives (NLA) will host the International Council on Archives Congress (ICA Congress Abu Dhabi 2023) from October 9–13 under the theme “Enriching Knowledge Society.”
Dr. Abdulla Al Raisi, Cultural Adviser, UAE Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the ICA Congress Abu Dhabi 2023, announced that the ICA Congress would be held in the UAE for the first time in the Middle East and Arab World.
“The Congress’ programm has been developed to fit well into the UAE’s approach as an oasis for human coexistence and tolerance,” Dr. Al Raisi remarked in a meeting organised by the NLA to reveal details of its preparations for the event.

According to the Cultural Adviser, the program will feature thematic topics revolving around Peace and Tolerance; Emerging Technologies: Electronic Records and Electronic Solutions; Sustainable Knowledge and a Sustainable Planet: Archives, Records, and Climate Change; Trust and Evidence; and Access and Memories.
Dr. Al Raisi added that more than 100 countries will participate in the five-day congress, and the organising committee had received more than 500 working papers.
The ICA Congress Abu Dhabi 2023 will also mark the organization’s 75th anniversary. The Congress, which had its inaugural session in 1950, has been globally recognised as the most important forum for professionals, institutions, and industries engaged with archives, records, and information management.

The 2023 session will spotlight the significant role played by archives in preserving and enabling access to government and institutional records and to the multimedia documents embodying our societies.
