Abu Dhabi: The Muslim Council of Elders is attending the 25th World Congress of Philosophy in Rome from August 1 to 8. The event, organized by the International Federation of Philosophical Societies, the Italian Philosophical Society, and Sapienza University of Rome, focuses on the future of societies, examining social, economic, political, technological, and cultural issues.
Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, spoke at the session “Aristotle-Buddha-Confucius-Islam: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Challenges.” He emphasized the need for coexistence among diverse cultures, highlighting cultural diversity as essential to human rights. Abdelsalam noted that current global tensions often lead to the marginalization of certain groups.
He discussed the importance of dialogue between Confucian and Aristotelian philosophy, suggesting that integrating these with Islamic philosophy could address contemporary issues. Abdelsalam pointed out that institutions like Al-Azhar University have long studied Eastern and Western philosophies, promoting intellectual exchange.
Abdelsalam concluded by asserting that Islam promotes social, economic, and cultural systems based on equality, solidarity, and justice. He described Islam as a moderate religion that fosters goodness and righteousness.
The session featured global participation, with discussions on philosophical ideas addressing inequality, cultural diversity, the environment, justice, rights, and political transformations. Participants explored expanding philosophical discussions to include various fields and encouraged defending diversity by uniting ideas and traditions worldwide.
