Abu Dhabi: The Board of Trustees of Suqia UAE, a non-profit organization that provides humanitarian aid around the world has approved the shortlist of finalists for the 3rd cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award.
A biennial initiative, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, with a total prize basket of $1 million, honors research institutions, individuals and innovators globally which develop new technologies dedicated to producing, distributing, storing, monitoring, desalinating, and purifying water using renewable energy to solve water scarcity.
Mr. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA and Chairman of the Suqia UAE Board of Trustees, commended the level of transparency and accuracy for cataloguing applications for the 3rd cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Water Award, observing that nominations were evaluated according to strict judging criteria as per the highest local and international standards.
The DEWA MD and CEO further touched upon the Award’s role in realizing the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, to enhance the contribution of both the UAE and Dubai to provide solutions for poor and afflicted communities around the world.
THE AWARD
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award include four categories;
- The Innovative Projects Award
- The Innovative Individual Award
- The Innovative R&D Award and
- The Innovative Crisis Solutions Award
The third cycle of the award has attracted participants from 56 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, UK, India, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, UAE. The award also saw participants from Algeria, Kenya, Israel, Australia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Malawi, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Zambia for the first time.

Established in 2015, the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), an entity under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives foundation, is a non-profit organization that provides humanitarian aid around the world.
