Dubai: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has introduced a new program to enhance agricultural production and bolster food security in the UAE. This initiative aims to improve the skills and capabilities of agricultural extension agents, focusing on modern farming techniques and effective communication.
The program includes specialized training in soil and irrigation, crop and vegetable production, fruit cultivation, pest control, and beekeeping. These training sessions, featuring lectures, workshops, and field courses, are designed to equip agents with practical and technical skills.
Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Food Diversity Sector at MOCCAE, emphasized the program’s role in supporting sustainable farming practices. By enhancing the proficiency of agricultural extension agents, the initiative seeks to boost local agricultural output and advance sustainable food systems.
The program will be implemented in partnership with research centers and global experts. It involves an annual agricultural guidance plan to monitor and support farmers, focusing on crops such as date palms, fruits, vegetables, and honey production. This plan includes regular farm visits, technical reports, and recommendations to improve crop yields and address farmers’ challenges.
