Dubai: The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) to collaborate on environmental data management and geospatial mapping.
The strategic partnership aims to enhance MOCCAE’s decision-making capabilities and operational efficiency using advanced space technology, supporting the UAE’s journey toward achieving its national goals and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
The collaboration will focus on using innovative geospatial tools to monitor environmental factors, improving the Ministry’s ability to shape effective policies and programs in key sustainability areas.
Signed at MOCCAE’s headquarters in Dubai, the MoU was formalized by Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of MOCCAE, and Salem Humaid Al Marri, Director General of MBRSC, in the presence of Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment. The partnership will facilitate collaborative research and projects in data visualization and geospatial mapping, allowing MOCCAE to access comprehensive, real-time environmental insights.
Al Nuaimi stated that, “Through this collaboration, we will enhance our capacity for informed, data-driven decision-making in areas such as food security, biodiversity, climate change, air quality, and community development. Together, we are working toward our goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.”
Delighted to sign an MoU between MBRSC and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment to cooperate on environmental data and geospatial mapping.

With MBRSC’s expertise in space technology and data analytics, the partnership will enhance MOCCAE’s geospatial platform, enabling the development of data-rich maps covering vital areas, including wildlife, marine ecosystems, agriculture, air quality, and seawater quality.
Salem Humaid Al Marri, Director General of MBRSC, emphasized that, “This MoU is a key step toward environmental sustainability. By utilizing space data and geospatial technology, we aim to support evidence-based policies and provide innovative solutions for the UAE’s climate goals.”
The collaboration also includes the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to improve data models and develop satellite data processing capabilities. This technology-driven approach will further support MOCCAE in creating a reliable geospatial mapping system, providing updated and comprehensive data for sustainable environmental management across the UAE.
