Dubai: While the global mega event, Expo 2020 Dubai continues to attract the biggest names across the globe to the Expo site, the atmosphere was much elevated when the world’s fourth-richest man, Microsoft co-founder and globally renowned philanthropist Mr. Bill Gates visited the venue.
Ms. Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Director General, Expo 2020 Dubai received the Microsoft co-founder at the Expo site.
Mr. Gates’ visit to Expo 2020 Dubai site is seen as a momentous event as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation joined hands to support grassroots innovators with the ambition and potential to improve the lives of people across a variety of complex, fragile or marginalized humanitarian settings.

Mr. Gates was first escorted through the important projects of Expo Live, a global innovation and partnership program that empowers innovators who develop extraordinary low-cost solutions.
During his tour through the Expo site, Mr. Gates was introduced to ‘Ideabatic’, a low-cost innovation developed by Ms. Kitty Liao of the UK for keeping vaccines and life-saving medicines fresh during long journeys to remote rural areas.
Mr. Gates was very impressed by ‘Desert Control’, a new technology developed by Atle Idland of Norway, which helps in creating an agricultural revolution for arid regions with the help of Liquid NonoClay (LNC), a technology that converts poor soil into fertile land.

The tech works significantly faster and uses less water than conventional agricultural methods.
Mr. Gates was also taken to the Sustainability Pavilion, which showcases technologies that consume zero energy.
In a statement to the Expo TV, Mr. Gates called upon global leadership to accelerate the implementation of their commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, with the deadline just eight years away.
