Kuwait: Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Sabah, who served as the Prime Minister of Kuwait from 2011 to 2019, passed away this morning at the age of 82. Born on January 4, 1942, he held various key roles in Kuwait’s government throughout his career.
His journey in public service began in 1968 as the Supervisor of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Amiri Diwan. Sheikh Jaber’s leadership saw him rise through the ranks, becoming the Department Director and Assistant Undersecretary of Administrative and Financial Affairs.
In 1979, Sheikh Jaber was appointed Governor of Hawalli, later serving as the Governor of Ahmadi. His service continued with roles such as Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Minister of Information, and Advisor to the Amir’s Office.
In 2001, Sheikh Jaber was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. He was reappointed to these roles in the government formed in 2003. By 2006, he was promoted to First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and Minister of Defense, maintaining these positions across several cabinets. In 2011, he became the Prime Minister of Kuwait, a role he held until 2019.
