Sharjah: Khorfakkan has hosted the Arab Cycling Day competition, marking the annual event with participation from more than 300 cycling enthusiasts. Organized by the Arab Cycling Federation, Arab Cycling Day, which falls on October 30 each year, attracted competitors from across the region, showcasing the growing popularity of cycling in the Arab world.
Arab Cycling Day competition started at the scenic Khorfakkan Waterfall, leading participants along a 10-kilometer route. It was followed by notable figures in the sporting community, including Sheikh Faisal bin Hamid Al Qasimi, President of the Arab Cycling Federation; Dr. Omar bin Hunaifa of the Sharjah Sports Council; Dr. Yasser Omar Al-Dokhi, Director of Sports and Community Events; Dr. Ashraf Imam, President of the Sudanese Cycling Federation; Ahmad Hassan Al Naqbi, a Khorfakkan Sports and Cultural Club board member; Salem Al Shehi, Financial Director of the Arab Federation; and Advisor Ismail Al-Hosani, Secretary-General of the Arab Cycling Federation.
Expressing his delight at the high level of participation, Sheikh Faisal bin Hamid Al Qasimi complimented the support provided by the Sharjah Sports Council and the UAE Cycling Federation. Sheikh Faisal highlighted the event as a consideration of the UAE’s commitment to encouraging sports, culture and community health through active lifestyle initiatives. Sheikh Faisal noted that cycling not only encourages physical fitness but also supports environmental preservation, aligning with broader goals of sustainable development.
The successful turnout for Arab Cycling Day highlighted the value of collaborative efforts within the sports sector, underscoring the role of cycling in boosting fitness and environmental awareness in the region.
