Abu Dhabi: US First Lady Jill Biden emphasized the urgent need to address rising global cancer rates and improve survival outcomes during her visit to Abu Dhabi.
Speaking to oncologists at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, one of the region’s premier medical institutions, she described the emotional and confusing journey of trying to support her son through his battle with cancer disease.
Beau Biden, aged 46, passed away from brain cancer, an incident that profoundly impacted Mrs. Biden’s commitment to cancer research and the improvement of survival chances for patients worldwide.

Earlier in her visit, Mrs. Biden met with Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the UAE’s Mother of the Nation, at the Sea Palace. Their conversation focused on the historically low rates of cancer testing among Emirati women, with Sheikha Fatima highlighting the need for greater awareness and participation in screening programs.
During her visit, Biden learned about innovative advancements in cancer treatment, including the use of artificial intelligence to target cancer cells while preserving healthy tissue, sparing patients from the pain of invasive.
Biden’s visit also spotlighted the Biden Cancer Moonshot initiative, aimed to enhance cancer research and improve outcomes for patients.

Mrs. Biden visited Qasr Al Hosn, the oldest stone building in Abu Dhabi, where she left a handwritten note expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality she received. Her message read: “May the wisdom of these wells continue to light a way forward in peace and prosperity for the centuries to come.”
At the Milken Institute’s annual meeting, Biden addressed the ongoing challenges in women’s healthcare, noting that many medical research areas, such as menopause, endometriosis, and heart disease, have been historically overlooked.
