Abu Dhabi: In her keynote at the 1st London Climate Technology Show, Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Executive Director of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA) focused on the rapid change in the climate.
The London Climate Show provides a unique forum for the entire sustainability value chain, including governments, multinational and local businesses, investors, academics, and entrepreneurs, to discuss and collaborate on methods for reducing the effects of climate change using innovative business strategies, ground-breaking technology, and cutting-edge knowledge.
The event also witnessed addresses from Mr. James Bevan, CEO of the UK Environment Agency, and Dr. Yousef Alshammari, CEO & Head of Oil Research at CMarkits, the UK-based global energy markets consultancy.
In her address, Sheikha Shamma emphasized the recent, accelerated growth of the climate issue and the UAE’s efforts to lessen its consequences through its Net Zero commitments and strategy. The UICCA Executive Director urged more innovation and cooperation across nations and within the climate technology sector in order to find and implement solutions that would have a positive influence.
“It’s imperative that a region’s Net Zero commitments not be aspirational, but motivational and proactive. There are transformations taking place in major industries, such as construction, agriculture, tourism and even oil and gas to support this. Innovation is the driver that will be the key to achieving these goals,” Sheikha Shamma remarked.

The UICCA official highlighted that association between countries and the incorporation of technology will be essential to protecting the future of our planet as the UAE prepares to host COP28, the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties, in 2023.
Sheikha Shamma observed that the opportunity to take advantage of everything the area has to offer is now.
