Sharjah: The Gulf Women Creativity Award, organized by Sharjah’s Cultural Office of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, is now open for submissions for its seventh edition. Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the award honors the intellectual contributions of women across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, with entries accepted until November 18.
The award aims to elevate the role of women in GCC nations by recognizing their achievements in literature and promoting positive competition in creative writing. This year’s competition includes three categories: classical poetry, critical studies on “The Self and the Other in Travel Literature,” and children’s literature focused on short stories.
The Cultural and Media Office of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs ensures transparency and integrity throughout the evaluation process, which is conducted by a panel of esteemed literary and cultural experts.
Salha Ghabesh, Head of the Cultural Office, highlighted the award’s significance in the Arab literary landscape, noting the growing participation of female writers from GCC countries. She attributed this increase to the award’s successful history and expressed a desire to further elevate the contributions of Gulf women on the global stage.
In the previous edition, the award introduced the Cultural Personality Award, honoring a Gulf woman who has significantly impacted Gulf culture through her literary contributions. This new category aims to showcase the cultural richness of the Gulf region worldwide.
Building on the award’s success, the General Secretariat has decided to feature female writers from a different Arab country in each session. This year, the Republic of Iraq will be in the spotlight, focusing on literary studies, particularly “The Self and the Other in Travel Literature.”
The Sharjah Award for Gulf Women’s Creativity remains a leading platform for recognizing and nurturing the literary achievements of women in the Gulf, contributing to a vibrant cultural landscape across the region.
