Dubai: The Dubai Municipality has completed seven ambitious beautification projects, enhancing the city’s key intersections, roadsides and highways.
These projects, which span over 1.4 million square meters on Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail Roads, reflect the city’s ongoing commitment to green urban development and environmental sustainability.
With a total investment of AED 245 million ($66.15 million), the initiative aims to boost Dubai’s aesthetic appeal while creating a harmonious blend of urban infrastructure and lush green spaces. The planting efforts introduced over 2.5 million flowers and ornamental plants, along with 6,500 trees, all accompanied by water-efficient, state-of-the-art irrigation systems.
HE Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized that these projects are integral to the “Green Dubai Project,” which seeks to expand green areas across the emirate. “These integrated, sustainable initiatives not only elevate the city’s aesthetic appeal but also reinforce its global reputation as a leader in environmental sustainability,” Al Hajri said.
The projects exemplify Dubai Municipality’s dedication to fostering a healthy, comfortable environment through green infrastructure. Through smart irrigation systems, the Municipality has ensured optimal water consumption, further enhancing the city’s commitment to sustainability.
Sheikh Zayed and Al Khail Roads
The scope of the beautification effort is particularly significant on Sheikh Zayed Road, one of Dubai’s busiest highways. Four major projects were completed, covering 843,000 square meters across key intersections such as Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Yelayes Street, as well as stretches of the road from Umm Suqeim Street to Al Yelayes Street.
These projects involved the planting of nearly 1.5 million flower and plant seedlings and 3,500 trees, along with the application of 290,000 square meters of soil mulching to prevent erosion and enhance the natural beauty of the area.
On Al Khail Street, three major beautification projects covered 625,000 square meters, focusing on intersections with Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, and Umm Suqeim Street. A total of 1 million flowers and plant seedlings, 3,000 trees, and 143,654 square meters of soil mulch were added to these areas.
These projects are part of the Dubai Municipality’s broader strategy to enhance Dubai’s green spaces and foster sustainable urban growth.
