Abu Dhabi: His Excellency Faras Al Ramahi, Director General of the General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) has welcomed His Excellency Marcelo Abi Ramia Caetano, Secretary General of the International Social Security Association (ISSA), to monitor the UAE’s federal pension and social security scheme.
The discussion focused on empowering collaboration between the two organizations and inspecting opportunities for enhancing workforce competencies and streamlining pension operations.
The attendees were Hind Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of GPSSA’s Pension sector, along with several department heads and directors. The meeting focused on analyzing key policies and practices related to pensions and insurance while addressing challenges faced by social security systems globally. Both parties explored development opportunities and shared insights on innovative solutions.

A key point of discussion was the use of ISSA’s training programs to develop the skill sets of staff handling daily pension operations. The critical role of technology in improving social security services was highlighted, with discussions on how new trends could optimize processes and enhance service delivery.
His Excellency Al Ramahi provided an overview of GPSSA’s strategic objectives, vision, and future plans. He highlighted the unique characteristics of the UAE’s social insurance system, which is built on the values of unity and cohesion as outlined in the UAE Constitution. Al Ramahi also stressed the importance of social inclusivity, particularly for Emirati families, focusing on the safety of vulnerable groups such as people of determination, children, and the elderly.
Both parties agreed on the importance of enhancing cooperation between institutions involved in pensions and social insurance. They recognized that partnerships like this support mutual objectives such as improving retirement services, ensuring the existence of pension funds, and adopting best practices from international experiences.
His Excellency Caetano expressed his gratitude for GPSSA’s efforts and underlined the significance of continuing to share knowledge and experiences. He emphasized that such exchanges are important for driving qualitative transformations in social security systems for both parties.
