Abu Dhabi: The inaugural Global Food Security Summit (GFSS), has been scheduled to take place on 26th November in Abu Dhabi.
The event will under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA).
The groundbreaking summit, organized by ADNEC Group in collaboration with ADAFSA, aims to address urgent global food security issues with a strong focus on Africa’s unique challenges.
The summit has received the endorsement of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS), and is also supported by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and the UAE Food and Beverage Manufacturers Group.
Set at the ADNEC Centre, the event will bring together global leaders, policymakers, and experts to explore sustainable agricultural innovations and solutions for communities most at risk from food insecurity worsened by climate change.
Saeed Al Bahri Salem Al Ameri, Director-General of ADAFSA, expressed that, “The summit underscores the need to exchange knowledge globally, as this is key to overcoming the challenges facing agriculture and food security.”
Humaid Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNEC Group emphasized the summit’s role in uniting leaders and innovators to tackle food security, particularly in vulnerable areas.
The FAO’s Head of Mission for GCC states and Yemen, Kayan Akram Jaff, stressed that, “As of 2023, nearly 28.9 percent of the world’s population, equating to 2.33 billion people, are facing moderate to severe food insecurity.”
Ambassador Berik Aryn, Director-General of IOFS, highlighted that the summit provides a platform for OIC member states to collaborate on sustainable food production, benefiting both Africa and the global community.
Saleh Lootah, Chairman of the UAE Food and Beverage Manufacturers Group, underscored that, “FAO and IOFS’s support highlights the UAE’s commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.”
The summit will cover climate-smart agriculture, advanced food production technologies, supply chain management, and aid strategies. The summit aligns with the UAE’s legacy of compassion and sustainability, inspired by the nation’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
