Dubai: The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has called a workshop in Dubai aimed at managing the challenges posed by weather fluctuations in the aviation sector. This collective event brought together approximately 30 representatives from key organizations, including the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Dubai Airports, Dubai Air Navigation Services (dans), and flydubai, among others.
This workshop is part of a broader endeavor by the GCAA to engage all its partners across the UAE, providing heightened preparedness for a variety of weather conditions, particularly as the winter season approaches.
Hosted by the Aviation Safety Affairs sector, the session emphasized the impact of severe weather, especially heavy rainfall, on air traffic management and passenger movement. The GCAA underlined the importance of improving readiness levels to guarantee seamless operations during adverse conditions from November to early March.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, affirmed the authority’s responsibility to enhance the aviation sector’s resilience against weather-related challenges. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi stated that, “These workshops are important for ensuring continuity in aviation operations while maintaining safety and efficiency, even during the most challenging weather scenarios.”
Al Suwaidi also highlighted the significance of collaboration among all stakeholders, remarking that such workshops provide a perfect platform for exploring various scenarios and training teams to respond effectively. This coordination is essential for ensuring passenger safety and the smooth flow of air traffic across the nation.
Participants discussed the importance of heavy rainfall on aviation operations, including potential flight delays and passenger congestion. They explored innovative solutions such as improving airport drainage systems, optimizing traffic routes, offering early weather-sensing technologies, and enhancing movement for ground and air crews to manage crises related to heavy rain.
The GCAA remains dedicated to fostering cooperation and preparedness within the aviation sector, providing a robust response to emergency weather conditions.
