Dubai: The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has revealed the region’s first digital platform dedicated to implementing the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). This groundbreaking endeavor aims to facilitate efforts to reduce aviation emissions and enhance compliance with global carbon reduction standards.
Adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 2016 and implemented in 2019, CORSIA is a global framework designed to minimise international aviation emissions. It requires airlines to offset inevitable carbon dioxide emissions using carbon market emission units when reductions through technology, operations, or sustainable fuel are insufficient.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, highlighted the UAE’s ongoing commitment to global climate initiatives, stating that, “The UAE has continuously supported ICAO’s efforts to manage aviation emissions, and we remain dedicated to achieving international targets. The recent adoption of the ‘Dubai Framework for Aviation Fuel’ highlights our ambition to facilitate aviation emissions by 5 percent by 2030.”

The digital platform represents a significant upgrade from the manual data submission process used over the last four years. By automating calculations and ensuring data confidentiality, the system enhances accuracy, reduces review times, and minimizes human error.
Beyond streamlining data management for national carriers, the platform serves as a digital library for international emissions data. It is expected to support the development of advanced applications for offsetting and reducing carbon emissions in aviation.
The launch solidifies the UAE’s position as a leader in sustainability-driven aviation practices, strengthening its role in driving innovation within the global aviation sector.
