Chennai, India / Abu Dhabi: Etihad Airways celebrates the debut of its Chennai Super Kings (CSK) livery with the inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi to Chennai, marking a special milestone for the airline.
The aircraft, the first Airbus A320-neo operated by a UAE carrier, landed in Chennai, received a traditional water cannon salute to commemorate the occasion.
In a special touch, three of CSK’s newest team members—Gurjapneet Singh, Rahul Tripathi, and Vijay Shankar—greeted the aircraft upon arrival and made a special welcome announcement for guests on board. Passengers were also treated to sweet surprises celebrating the CSK partnership during the flight.
Arik De, Etihad Airways’ Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, expressed pride in the partnership with CSK, emphasizing the airline’s long-term commitment to the Indian market.
Arik De said that, “This special livery represents not only our collaboration with CSK but also our dedication to India and its passionate cricket fans.”

The partnership, launched earlier this year, has sparked engaging fan experiences, including the distribution of bespoke aircraft-shaped whistles, enabling fans to cheer their team in the signature “Whistle Podu” style. These activities, held at various matches, further solidify Etihad’s connection to India’s vibrant sporting community.
The CSK-themed aircraft will serve a variety of Indian destinations across Etihad’s short-haul network, with 181 flights per week to 11 Indian cities.
Etihad continues to expand its presence in India with new routes to Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur, and more frequent flights to key cities like Mumbai and Delhi.
Etihad’s fleet is also home to other notable special liveries, including the iconic Manchester City FC-themed Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix aircraft.
The airline’s commitment to creativity and customer experience is evident in its continuous unveiling of bespoke liveries, with more planned for 2025.
