Dubai: Dubai Health Authority (DHA) initiated an impactful Organ Donation awareness campaign at its headquarters in Al Jaddaf to commemorate World Transplant Day, observed annually on June 6th 2023. The campaign, consisting of a series of awareness roadshows, aims to promote organ donation and raise awareness about the National Program for Organ Donation and Transplantation, known as HAYAT.
The roadshows will be conducted across public and governmental organizations, hospitals, and popular public spaces like malls. The first roadshow recently took place at the flydubai Campus, encouraging individuals to consider becoming organ donors and highlighting the importance of this noble act.
Coinciding with World Transplant Day, the campaign also seeks to inspire community members to embrace a healthy lifestyle and prioritize regular health screenings. As part of the initiative, the DHA organized various health screenings for its employees, including tests for blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure. Additionally, employees received discount vouchers for gym memberships, motivating them to adopt a healthy lifestyle and engage in regular exercise.
Dr. Marwan Al Mulla, CEO of the Health Regulation Sector at the DHA, stated that, “Organ donation is one of the most selfless acts that can directly save lives. One donation from the deceased donor can save close to eight lives. The aim is this campaign is to increase organ donation rates in the UAE by educating the public about the importance of organ donation and ways to register.”
Currently, renal transplant services are available at Dubai Hospital, Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital, Mediclinic City Hospital, and Bone Marrow Transplant Services at the American Hospital. For corneal transplants, individuals can seek treatment at Dubai Hospital, Magrabi Eye Hospital Dubai, Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai, Barraquer Eye Hospital, and Clemenceau Medical Centre.
Throughout this month, the campaign will continue its efforts, reaching out to Rashid Hospital, Dubai Hospital, Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital, Mediclinic City Hospital, and King’s College Hospital London, UAE. The DHA’s Organ Donation awareness campaign is poised to make a meaningful impact, fostering a culture of compassion and saving lives through the generous act of organ donation.
