Dubai: The Dubai Mounted Police Station has unveiled the first “Tent Pegging” police squad in the country. This is an official equestrian sport that displays riders’ exceptional talent and proficiency with horses.
Accredited by the Emirates Equestrian Federation, Dubai Police’s team is the largest member of the UAE national tent pegging team.
The head of the tent pegging team and director of the Dubai Mounted Police Station, Dr. Major General Muhammad Issa Al Adhab, emphasized the ongoing directive from Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, the commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police, regarding the significance of developing human resources across various fields through advanced training programs and participation in sports.
“This initiative aims to enhance skills and work performance, contributing to Dubai Police’s strategic goals of boosting community security and safety,” Al Adhab stated.
He continued by saying that the Dubai Mounted Police Station constantly works to maximize its personnel resources and has a highly developed system in this area.
“Establishing the tent pegging team serves as a tool to maintain high craftsmanship and exceptional performance among our riders, boosting their confidence, motivation, and participation in local and international championships and fostering a competitive environment within the sport,” Al Adhab continued.
The Dubai Mounted Police Station’s Captain Rashed Salem Al Shamsi, who oversees the team that performs tent pegging and is also the head of the department of social services, stated that the station’s skills have made it possible to create an ideal setting for team formation.
He noted, “This involved selecting and training a core group of riders and employing specialised expertise, including the national team’s coach, to prepare them for this showy sport.”
