Dubai: Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed Al Maktoum led the first meeting of the Council in 2023 and approved the 2023-2033 strategy for sports sector development.
Sheikh Mansoor emphasized the significance of putting sustainability initiatives into action in the sports industry in accordance with the leadership’s vision for the UAE and the directives of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who declared 2023 to be the “Year of Sustainability.”
“The announcement reflects the UAE leadership’s commitment to implementing sustainability-focused initiatives that seek to ensure a better tomorrow for future generations. In line with the directives of the UAE President, we remain committed to promoting sustainability in the sports sector,” Sheikh Mansoor remarked.
According to Sheikh Mansoor, a number of initiatives will start in 2023 with the goal of improving the sector’s performance and its GDP contribution. These measures will further strengthen Dubai’s position as a major host city for international athletic competitions and training camps. The success of 2022, which saw the debut of a number of international competitions, including the World Tennis League and the Dubai Super Cup, will be built upon in 2023, the Chairman continued.
Sheikh Mansoor also issued orders to hold 500 more sporting events in Dubai each year during the conference. According to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, this would be gradually increased to 1,000 events per year.
A number of activities and programs are included in the strategy in an effort to keep up with regional and worldwide trends in the industry. Additionally, Sheikh Mansoor issued directives to establish an award to recognise schools that have put policies in place to improve students’ health and well-being through sports, as well as directives to collaborate with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) to create incentives for promoting sports. The meeting also went over the schedule of competitions and events that Dubai will hold in 2023 as well as rules designed to entice sportsmen to Dubai clubs.
