Dubai: DP World and the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) have commenced construction on a new SAR900 million ($250 million) logistics park at Jeddah Islamic Port. This facility will provide advanced storage and distribution services, aiming to enhance trade in Saudi Arabia and the surrounding region.
The 415,000 sq m facility will include 185,000 sq m of warehousing space and a multipurpose storage yard, making it the largest integrated logistics park in Saudi Arabia. It will have the capacity for over 390,000 pallet positions, facilitating the efficient flow of goods to and from Jeddah.
Established in 2022 under a 30-year concession, Jeddah Logistics Park will be developed in two phases, with the opening planned for Q2 2025. The facility will feature a rooftop solar plant generating 20MW of renewable energy, supporting its sustainable design.
In addition to the logistics park, DP World and Mawani are managing the South Container Terminal through a separate 30-year concession signed in 2020. This terminal is undergoing modernization, set for completion in Q4 2024, which will increase its handling capacity to five million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). Combined, these DP World projects represent an investment of nearly SAR4 billion ($1 billion).
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, emphasized the importance of Saudi Arabia to DP World. “This milestone represents our ongoing commitment to the Kingdom. Jeddah Logistics Park, strategically located on the Asia-Europe shipping route, will provide world-class connectivity and market access for our customers while supporting Saudi Vision 2030,” he said.
Omar Bin Talal Hariri, President of Mawani, highlighted the project’s role in expanding logistics centers in Saudi ports. “This new logistics area, connected to DP World’s South Container Terminal, will facilitate growth and increase container handling at the terminal. It aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030,” he stated.
Mohammad Alshaikh, DP World Country Head, KSA, presented details of the project at the groundbreaking event, which was attended by UAE Consul General Nasser Huwaiden Thaiban Ali AlKetbi, senior Saudi government representatives, and DP World’s leadership team.
Aligning with Saudi Vision 2030, Jeddah Logistics Park will optimize logistics for importers and exporters, providing an integrated platform for trade and logistics. The facility will offer efficient services linking port operations to last-mile activities, temperature-controlled storage, import and export consolidation centers, and other value-added services.
