Tili, East Timor: Acknowledging and Reiterating the UAE’s leadership in Inter-Faith Relations, the Parliament of Southeast Asian nation, Republic of East Timor has adopted “The Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” as their national document.
Earlier in the month, Mr. José Ramos-Horta, President of East Timor had revealed the decision made by the Parliament while adding that the “The Document on Human Fraternity” will be integrated to the school curriculum in the country.
Seen as a beacon of Inter-Faith relations, “The Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” is a joint statement signed by Pope Francis of the Catholic Church and Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, on 4th of February 2019 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Speaking at his Inaugural address as the re-elected President of East Timor, Ramos-Horta, revealed that the UAE and East Timor share the same values of human fraternity and solidarity, to create a world free from conflict, war and violence.

The decision will enhance East Timor’s stature as a country that promotes coexistence, expressing his hope that more countries would follow its example.
Mr. Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders remarked about the revelation.

The Muslim Council of Elders Secretary-General further added that, President Ramos-Horta, a 2022 member of the judging committee of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, believes in the values of human fraternity and possesses the will to follow through on promoting these values.
