Dubai: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has been awarded the prestigious 30th SolarPACES Technology Innovation Award in Rome, Italy, recognizing its groundbreaking advancements in solar technology at Phase IV of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
The accolade underscores DEWA’s global leadership in the clean and renewable energy sector. His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, received the award, adding to DEWA’s growing portfolio of international honors.
SolarPACES, a leading technology collaboration program under the International Energy Agency (IEA), has been a key driver in advancing Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) since 1977. The SolarPACES annual conference, which awards innovators in CSP and energy storage, is the premier platform for the sector’s researchers, technology providers, and policymakers, promoting global collaboration and innovation in renewable energy.
Al Tayer highlighted that, “Guided by His Highness, DEWA has adopted advanced renewable technologies at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park globally. This accomplishment aligns with the UAE Net-Zero 2050 Strategy and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, with interim goals already met ahead of schedule. This award highlights DEWA’s excellence on an international level.”
Phase IV of the Solar Park, the largest single-site CSP project in the world, stands as a testament to DEWA’s commitment to innovation. With a total capacity of 950 MW and investments of AED 15.8 billion ($4.3 billion), this phase utilizes hybrid technologies, including a 100 MW Solar Central Tower with 15 hours of storage, three Parabolic Troughs generating 600 MW with 12 hours of storage, and 250 MW of Solar PV Panels.
This phase has set world records, with the tallest solar tower at 263.126 meters and the largest thermal energy storage capacity of 5,907 megawatt-hours, enabling 24-hour solar energy production.
