Dubai: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has given importance to environmental sustainability with a strong focus on integrating sustainable practices in both home and workplace environments.
As part of its commitment to the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2021-2041, DEWA emphasizes innovative waste management and recycling, energy conversion from waste, and practical environmental solutions.
Since launching its recycling initiative for plastic bottles and aluminum cans in October 2022, DEWA employees have made significant contributions. By mid-2024, approximately 690 employees recycled 656,315 bottles and cans, effectively diverting 9.18 tones of waste from landfills. DEWA has facilitated this effort by providing smart recycling machines in several of its buildings.
The machines, which employees operate through DEWA’s Smart Office app, allow users to scan a QR code and earn points for each recycling activity. These points enter employees into a raffle for valuable monthly prizes. As of June 2024, DEWA has recognized 70 employees for their outstanding recycling contributions.
Aligned with its vision to become a globally leading sustainable and innovative corporation, DEWA has organized 14 awareness activities aimed at promoting sustainable practices. These initiatives focus on improving electricity and water efficiency, minimizing waste, reducing plastic use, and enhancing recycling efforts. DEWA’s commitment is part of its broader goal to achieve Net-Zero emissions by 2050.
