California: A high-level delegation led by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has visited Southern Power’s Garland Solar Facility and Clearway Energy Group’s Daggett Solar Site in California, USA.
The visit focused on exploring solar energy innovations that combine photovoltaic panels with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to enhance sustainable power generation.
The DEWA delegation aimed to gather insights and best practices from these advanced US solar facilities to strengthen Dubai’s clean energy infrastructure. DEWA is actively working to expand its renewable energy portfolio, utilizing technologies such as photovoltaic solar panels and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP).
The CSP system features a central tower unit and three parabolic trough units to ensure continuous, large-scale electricity generation 24/7.

Saeed Al Tayer emphasized that, “Our collaboration with US energy leaders reflects the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to harness advanced technologies that improve performance and quality of life.”
Al Tayer highlighted how these efforts support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to achieve 100 percent clean energy production by 2050.
Al Tayer remarked on DEWA’s landmark project, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park.
With a projected capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030, the solar park plays a crucial role in Dubai’s transition to clean and sustainable energy sources.
