Abu Dhabi: The Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has ended the second edition of the annual Advances in UAE Archaeology Conference 2022.
The conference, which took place on Yas Island highlighted recent archaeological discoveries, the latest findings and research results in the UAE, as well as promoted the role of museums in preserving and communicating the UAE’s archaeological heritage to the public.
A practical field trip was also conducted as part of the conference which successfully showcased unique discoveries and extended academic learning at two archaeology sites in Hili and Al Ain. The conference, which was conducted by the Zayed National Museum, supported DCT Abu Dhabi’s effort to preserve and promote the emirate’s extensive cultural and historical heritage.
Dr. Peter Magee, Director of Zayed National Museum, remarked that, “Archaeology offers a unique perspective on human history and culture, helping us understand where and when people lived, and most importantly, how they have lived. The Advances in UAE Archaeology Conference expanded appeal within the community and attracted more archaeology enthusiasts to attend, exchange knowledge and network alongside fellow archaeologists. We are proud of the team from DCT Abu Dhabi for leading this project, featuring passionate Emirati specialists enhancing and almost certainly revising our knowledge of UAE archaeology and our deeply rooted origins.”
The second edition of the Archaeology Conference, which was held over three days after the first edition’s success in 2018, featured an expanded line-up with more than 30 expert speakers and presenters who showcased their work in both archaeology and relevant academic research. This edition marked a new chapter by highlighting the field’s contemporary advancements and developments.
With broad appeal, the conference offered exciting and engaging opportunities for VIPs and government officials, academics and archaeologists, and corporates and delegates. All attendees enjoyed the opportunity to be immersed in authentic Emirati hospitality at arrival points within the venue and beyond.
Moreover, the conference offered workshops, informal networking events, and discussion chances for all delegates, in addition to engaging academic and formal programs. This affirms DCT Abu Dhabi’s commitment to promoting the sustained growth of the emirate’s cultural, tourism, and creative industries while working to bring the ecosystem together around a common understanding of the potential of the region.
