Abu Dhabi: Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD), a part of the M42 group, has been honored as the UAE’s leading health research hospital by the National Center for Health Research (NCHR) under the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), for the second year in a row.
This recognition highlights CCAD’s pioneering role in clinical innovations, medical research, and education. The hospital’s initiatives include residency and fellowship programs, undergraduate health professional training, and Continuing Medical Education (CME). It is the first in the UAE to ensure dual accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGMEI) and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
Dr. Sawsan Abdel-Razig, Chief Academic Officer at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, underlined the significance of the accolade, saying that, “This recognition echoes the dedication and expertise of our entire team. Our multidisciplinary approach prioritizes analyzing regional health conditions to develop advanced treatments and enhance patient care. Research and education remain essential to our mission, bringing complex care closer to home.”

The NCHR’s Institutional Research Excellence Awards play a vital role in advancing health and biomedical research across the UAE. These awards have enabled significant strides in research performance and productivity, benefiting both healthcare institutions and academic bodies.
Dr. Abdel-Razig added that, “Our focus goes beyond clinical achievements to raising medical knowledge and setting new standards in healthcare education. We are dedicated to our mission to deliver world-class healthcare and drive innovation in the UAE and beyond.”
In 2023, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi founded 60 new research studies, raising its total active examination portfolio to 212. Among its key projects are genome-based studies targeting liver health, breast health, and obesity—efforts aimed at enhancing the health of the Emirati population through personalized healthcare and advanced treatments.
The hospital continues to lead in areas like stroke care, adult cardiac surgery, antimicrobial stewardship, and extracorporeal life support. Its designation as a Center of Excellence in multiple domains further highlights its commitment to medical advancements and exceptional care.
