Dubai: In a landmark initiative, the Community Development Authority (CDA) of Dubai has launched a training program aimed at qualifying social workers who support government agencies across the emirate.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, reflects Dubai’s commitment to enhancing social services and improving the well-being of its residents, in line with the objectives of the Dubai Social Agenda 33.
The launch event was attended by key figures, including Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary-General of the Executive Council of Dubai; Abdulrazaq Ameri, CEO of Irada Centre for Rehab and Treatment; and Sheikha Al Mansouri, Acting Director-General of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children.
As part of the agreement between CDA and the University of Birmingham, the newly developed program will provide specialized courses covering various aspects of social work.
The aim is to equip social workers with the latest knowledge and global best practices, enabling them to offer high-quality support to diverse communities across Dubai.
Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director-General of the CDA in Dubai, stated that, “Through this program, Dubai aims to develop skilled social workers capable of creating a positive and sustainable impact. The partnership with the University of Birmingham will help us integrate advanced knowledge and research to continuously improve our social services.”
The training initiative will focus on a thorough analysis of skill gaps in Dubai’s social sector, an assessment of current regulations, and alignment with international standards. Based on these findings, targeted training programs will be created in key areas such as child protection, elderly support, and social case management.
Dr. Anthony Murphy from the University of Birmingham remarked that, “We are delighted to partner with the Dubai Community Development Authority on this impactful program. It is an honor to share our knowledge and expertise, and we look forward to the growth of this partnership in the pursuit of excellence.”
The first phase of the program will commence with an introductory workshop, gathering 121 social specialists and counselors from various government agencies. The workshop will outline the key objectives and components of the training program, providing an overview of the strategic goals and the approach to developing a qualified workforce.
By addressing the unique needs of local populations, the program will lay the groundwork for a new generation of social leaders who will help meet future challenges and contribute to the sustainability of Dubai’s growth and development.
