Beijing (Capital of China): Beijing has initiated its first drone-based delivery service at the Badaling section of the Great Wall, offering tourists quick access to essential items and emergency supplies. This new service allows visitors to receive goods within minutes, enhancing their experience at this historic site.
The delivery point for the drones is the south ninth watchtower, part of the newly opened extension of the Badaling Great Wall. This area, known for activities like hiking, adventure crossings, and photography, lacks commercial facilities, making it challenging for visitors to find necessary supplies such as drinking water.
To solve this issue, the Badaling Great Wall scenic area has partnered with a delivery platform to implement the drone service. Visitors can scan a QR code to place orders via a food delivery app, and drones will deliver the items in about five minutes. This is a significant improvement compared to the 50-minute walk required to reach the location on foot.
In addition to delivering supplies, the drones also transport waste on their return trips, reducing the workload for maintenance staff.
The Badaling section, one of the most visited parts of the Great Wall, has welcomed over 200 million tourists since it opened to the public in 1958. This drone service is a modern enhancement to the site, ensuring visitors have a more comfortable and convenient experience.
