Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority has announced the opening of the 2024-2025 traditional hunting season at Al Marzoom Hunting Reserve in the Al Dhafra Region.
The season runs from now until 15th February 2025, offering an immersive experience in heritage and environmental conservation.
Al Marzoom, the UAE’s largest reserve dedicated to traditional hunting practices, stands as a hub for cultural preservation and eco-tourism. It highlights the rich traditions of falconry and hunting with Arabian greyhounds, known as Salukis, while promoting environmental sustainability and heritage conservation.
Visitors and hunting enthusiasts can enjoy morning and afternoon sessions, available seven days a week, adhering to strict regulations set by Abu Dhabi authorities.
The reserve combines the thrill of traditional recreational hunting with a commitment to sustainable practices and wildlife preservation.
Spanning 923 square kilometers, the reserve offers expansive landscapes for falconers and hunters. Under expert guidance, participants are grouped into teams to engage in ethical hunting practices.
Prey includes houbara bustards, wild rabbits, and antelopes, all pursued using falcons and Salukis- entirely weapon-free, preserving the authenticity of the traditional methods.
Al Marzoom not only serves as a venue for traditional hunting but also plays a vital role in protecting the region’s biodiversity. By safeguarding the natural habitat and promoting falconry awareness, the reserve helps rehabilitate endangered wildlife while fostering a deeper appreciation for the UAE’s rich heritage.
Conveniently located just 100 to 120 kilometers from Abu Dhabi city, Al Marzoom Hunting Reserve offers an unparalleled blend of cultural legacy and environmental stewardship, making it a must-visit destination for heritage enthusiasts and eco-conscious tourists alike.
