Abu Dhabi: The Al Dhafra Grand Kingfish Championship is set to take place from January 10 to 12, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region. The Al Dhafra Grand Kingfish Championship will launch from three key locations: Al Marfa, Abu Dhabi Corniche, and Dalma Island.
Al Dhafra Grand Kingfish Championship, organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, and Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, aims to encourage the UAE’s cultural and maritime heritage. Open to both men and women, the competition will feature a mix of professional and amateur fishermen.
The prize pool for this year’s championship totals $3,17,995 (AED1,168,000) with awards for the top 60 positions, alongside daily prizes created to encourage participation and elevate competition levels. A press conference held at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club revealed further details, attended by sports leaders and representatives from various organizing and supporting entities.
In addition to the main fishing events, Championship will include various festivals and tourism activities to celebrate Abu Dhabi’s rich maritime traditions.
