Sharjah: In an unprecedented Arab achievement, Adel Khalid, the Olympic sailor representing Al Hamriyah Club in Sharjah, wins first place in the overall score of the European Open Modern Sailing Championship. The competition’s final round wrapped up on October 11, 2024, in Vilamoura, Portugal.
Khalid has secured victory after delivering an exceptional performance throughout three rounds of the championship. He secured a gold and silver medal in the Swedish round, a gold medal in Germany, and a bronze medal in Portugal, strengthening his position at the highest levels of the competition.
Khalid expressed his joy by dedicating this unprecedented achievement to the wise leadership of the UAE.
Humaid Al Shamsi, Chairman of Al Hamriyah Club, extended his congratulations to Khalid for his outstanding achievement. The club captain, along with those in administration and technology, received praise for their cooperation and support.
Captain Najib Basha, the modern sailing coach at Al Hamriyah Club, stated that, Adil Khalid’s gold medal demonstrates his hard work and dedication to training.
The player earlier had thanked His Excellency Humaid Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Hamriyah Club, and His Excellency Issa Hilal, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, for their continuous support and follow-up of all the championships which he participates.
Adel Khaled had raised the country’s flag in Portugal, as he promised before like the recent championships Adel won in Morocco, Sweden and Germany.
