Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has launched an intensive inspection and awareness campaign to ensure the safe handling of food and reduce food waste as part of its efforts to improve food safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and achieve the welfare and safety of the community.
In order to guarantee access to the highest levels of food safety during Ramadan, inspection campaigns concentrate on monitoring and correcting improper practices in food establishments through approved procedures, including food stores, distribution centres, suppliers, sales outlets, supermarkets, groceries, restaurants, traditional kitchens, and catering businesses.
They also target marketplaces for meat, fish, and produce to check for compliance with food safety standards. The ADAFSA offers a set of advice and instructions to the general public on the value of preserving food and promoting the best possible use of food, while the awareness campaign on food waste focuses on its detrimental economic and environmental effects.
In order to make sure that these facilities adhere to the highest standards of food safety and hygiene, the ADAFSA confirmed that its inspection teams are increasing the frequency of their visits to the various food outlets operating throughout the emirate.
ADAFSA noted that the campaign aims to change people’s attitudes towards food, particularly given the increase in food consumption during the month of Ramadan in addition to raising community awareness of the significance of reducing food waste through food preservation, meal planning, and selecting the proper quantities of food to be purchased.

In order to increase community understanding of the best correct food and safe handling methods as well as waste reduction, it was also noted that the awareness and advice initiatives are carried out through its official social media accounts.
The Authority also invites the public to get in touch with them and report any infractions, such as non-compliance or suspicions of food composition. Inspectors from ADAFSA will handle the complaints and take the required actions to guarantee that all residents of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi receive food that is both safe and wholesome.
