Abu Dhabi: To ease the burden on families unable to afford repatriation costs, Abu Dhabi has waived fees for follow-up procedures related to expat deaths. The waived fees include those for death certificates, embalming, ambulance services, and body storage.
Previously, the costs were AED 103 for a death certificate, AED 1,106 for embalming, and AED 1,209 for ambulance services and body storage, totaling AED 2,418.
Under UAE labor laws, sponsors are responsible for an expatriate’s death expenses. However, smaller firms often struggle to cover these costs, leading to the common practice of burying the deceased locally. Abu Dhabi’s intervention aims to address this issue and support affected families.
