Abu Dhabi: The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), operating under Abu Dhabi Mobility, has unveiled new taxi booking services, including a partnership with the ride-hailing service Yango. The updated offering features a state-of-the-art app that simplifies the booking process, allowing users to request taxis, track their rides in real-time, and select from various vehicle options.
The integration with Yango aims to provide users with additional flexibility and efficiency, combining the app’s advanced technology with Yango’s established ride-hailing network. This collaboration enhances the service by offering on-demand and scheduled rides, improved route optimization, and options for ride-sharing and premium services.
His Excellency Abdulla Al Marzouqi, Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre, said that, “Offering the service through international apps enhances the overall efficiency of taxi operations. It facilitates the process of locating vehicles and booking rides electronically for all members of the community. This initiative connects public and private taxis, as well as licenced private vehicles, with passengers in the emirate through secure, approved electronic communication platforms and smart apps. Abu Dhabi Mobility aims to enhance and develop transport services in Abu Dhabi emirate by providing digital connectivity between passengers and transport service operators. The goal is to offer users safe, fast, and convenient services.”
Islam Abdul Karim, General Manager, Yango GCC, said that, “We’re honoured to launch Yango in Abu Dhabi, partnering with Abu Dhabi Mobility. This collaboration brings together innovative technology and advanced world-class infrastructure, promising enhanced urban mobility and a seamless transportation experience for residents and tourists. We look forward to driving progress in the vibrant Abu Dhabi emirate, building on the strong foundations laid by Abu Dhabi Mobility.”
During the trial phase, over 300 taxis operated across Abu Dhabi, completing more than 8,000 trips through the Yango app in the past five months. The Yango app, available for free download in Arabic, English, and several other languages, now supports more than 1,500 registered taxis on iOS and Android platforms.
How this works
To book a ride, users simply download the app, enter their destination, and enable geolocation. The app then identifies their location and connects them with the nearest available driver for the quickest arrival.
Additionally, the service includes a secure system for managing lost items. Drivers are encouraged to return any found belongings to their owners or to the nearest police station. They must document the details of these items and collaborate with franchise companies, providing all necessary information to Abu Dhabi Mobility upon request.
ITC highlighted that the new system is part of its broader initiative to modernize Abu Dhabi’s transportation infrastructure, aiming to meet increasing demand for efficient and technology-driven mobility solutions. The app, represents a significant step towards achieving Abu Dhabi’s vision of becoming a leading smart city.
