Luxembourg: The UAE has been selected to host the prestigious International Moon Day Conference in Abu Dhabi in 2025, a significant event in the global space community.
The significant move aligns with the UAE’s 53rd Eid Al Etihad celebrations and was made during the ongoing Space Week in Luxembourg.
Luxembourg’s Space Week has become a major event, bringing together international experts, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and visionaries to discuss space exploration advancements, future prospects, and their potential impact on Earth.
The UAE’s participation underscores its growing influence in the global space industry. Dr. Salem bin Abdullah Al Wahshi, CEO of the Emirates Council for Work Relations Development, represented the UAE at the event.
The announcement was delivered during a session chaired by Dr. Nasr Al-Sahhaf, Chair of the United Nations International Moon Day.
World Space Week, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1999 through Resolution 54/68, celebrates the contributions of space science and technology to humanity. It is recognized as the largest annual space event worldwide, inspiring students, educating the public, fostering international collaboration, and bolstering support for space initiatives.
In 2018, the event saw participation from over 80 countries, hosting more than 5,000 activities globally. The week adopts an annual theme, selected in coordination with the UN Office of Outer Space Affairs, to unify global efforts and amplify the impact of space outreach.
Abu Dhabi’s hosting of the International Moon Day Conference reflects the UAE’s growing reputation as a hub for space innovation and diplomacy.
