Abu Dhabi: The Department of Health (DoH), the healthcare regulator in the Emirate, has announced the release of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) Guidelines for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
This move is part of the Emirate’s continuous efforts to improve care for People of Determination (PoD) and aligns with Abu Dhabi’s Comprehensive Strategy for People of Determination (2020-2024), which focuses on a rights-based approach to disabilities.
Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) is a therapy aimed at increasing positive behaviors and reducing negative behaviors for individuals with autism and other developmental disorders. The newly launched guidelines seek to standardize ABA services across the Emirate, ensuring consistent, high-quality care for ASD patients. This framework integrates evidence-based practices with international standards, empowering healthcare and education professionals to collaborate effectively.
Dr. Rashed Obaid Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of Healthcare Workforce Planning at the DoH, emphasized the importance of fostering an inclusive environment: “Abu Dhabi is dedicated to ensuring equitable access for People of Determination, enabling them to reach their full potential. By standardizing ABA services, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a resilient healthcare system that promotes collaboration between healthcare and education to enhance the well-being of all community members.”
The guidelines are expected to improve access to ABA therapy, with a strong focus on children and their families, fostering an integrative and holistic approach to autism care in Abu Dhabi.
