The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, under the visionary leadership, emerged victorious in both the City and Project categories at the award ceremony held in Malta on June 2nd, 2023.
The highly coveted Gold Award in the City E category was presented to Abu Dhabi City by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City of the Department of Municipalities and Transport. This accomplishment solidifies Abu Dhabi’s position as one of the world’s most dynamic and livable capitals.
Additionally, Abu Dhabi City secured the Silver award in the Project category for its remarkable Abu Dhabi Corniche Parks and Gardens project. This recognition highlights the city’s commitment to creating sustainable and enjoyable green spaces for its residents and visitors.
The LivCom Awards, established in 1997, is the most esteemed international competition endorsed by the United Nations. It aims to showcase best practices in local environmental management and sustainable city development. The competition evaluates cities based on six criteria, with a focus on enhancing the quality of life and creating livable communities.
With participation from 260 cities and 42 projects, the LivCom Awards represent a global platform for cities to showcase their achievements in sustainable development and community enhancement. Abu Dhabi City’s success in clinching both the Gold and Silver awards reflects its commitment to creating a vibrant and inclusive city for people of all ages, with a particular emphasis on catering to the needs of the elderly.
The LivCom Awards ceremony was a collaborative effort between the LivCom Committee, the United Nations International Institute on Ageing – Malta (UN-INIA), ISOCARP, the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD), the local government of Birgu city, and the American University of Malta (AUM). These organizations recognize the importance of fostering sustainable communities and promoting the well-being of residents around the world.
Mr. Saif Bader Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, expressed immense pride in receiving this international recognition.
