Abu Dhabi: The Scientific Committee of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center (ALC), part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), held its first meeting in 2023 online.
The committee members explored the Centre’s strategy and plans for the year ahead, discussed the committee’s objectives and responsibilities, and highlighted the ALC’s accomplishments over the past year.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC, with the members of the Scientific Committee in attendance, namely, Dr. Bilal Orfalli, Dr. Khalil al-Sheikh, Dr. Abdullah al Ghathami, Dr. Ali Al Kaabi, Dr. Vitaly Naumkin, Dr. Muhsin al Musawi, Dr. Muhammad Abu al Fadl Badran, Dr. Hanada Taha-Thomure, and Wen-Chin Ouyang. Also in attendance was Mr. Saeed Hamdan Al-Tunaiji, Executive Director of the ALC.
“The Scientific Committee of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre is a notable addition to the Centre’s development of the projects and initiatives. It presents innovative visions and scenarios that support this mandate and the Centre’s vision to cement Abu Dhabi’s role in championing the Arabic language across all cultural, creative, and educational fields,” stated Dr. bin Tamim.
The meeting’s agenda covered several topics, most notably, discussing the committee’s responsibilities and objectives, and going over the ALC’s most significant achievements in 2021 and 2022. On another note, the meeting discussed the execution plan for upcoming projects, which include the 32nd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, to be held from 22nd to 28th May 2023, the second International Congress of Arabic Publishing and Creative Industries on 21st May 2023, and the ninth Abu Dhabi Translation Conference, which is set to be hosted on the sidelines of the ALC’s participation in the 2023 Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
