Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has launched the West Coast Road Project Seychelles on Mahé Island in partnership with the local government, providing AED 86.6 million ($ 23.6 million) in funding.
The project has been designed to improve infrastructure, enhance connectivity, and support long-term social and economic development in the Republic of Seychelles. The West Coast Road Project Seychelles is a key step in expanding and modernizing the country’s transport network.
Stretching approximately 17 kilometers along Mahé Island’s western coast, the project has included widening the road to seven meters with 1.5-metre margins on both sides and the construction of service bays along the route. It has also incorporated advanced rainwater drainage systems, steel and concrete barriers, smart lighting, and modern traffic management infrastructure to improve road safety and efficiency.

Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, stated that, “The West Coast Road project reinforces ADFD’s strategic approach to supporting infrastructure development across Africa and other regions. Through impactful investments, the Fund continues to empower nations to achieve their development goals, enhance economic competitiveness, and improve the quality of life of communities worldwide.”
Beyond transport improvements, the project has created employment opportunities for local communities and is expected to contribute to a resilient, sustainable economy by supporting trade and tourism activities. These initiatives have consistently aligned with the country’s long-term socioeconomic and sustainable development objectives.
The West Coast Road Project Seychelles represents a continued commitment to delivering strategic, high-impact infrastructure that benefits both people and the broader economy. Through this initiative, ADFD has strengthened Seychelles’ transportation network while fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development across the region.
