Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi will once again serve as a principal filming location for the next chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s cinematic adaptation of Frank Herbert’s acclaimed Dune saga.
Legendary Entertainment confirmed that production on the highly anticipated third installment will return to Abu Dhabi’s breathtaking Liwa desert, famed for its towering sand dunes and golden horizons, to authentically depict the mythical planet of Arrakis. The film will continue the sweeping saga of Paul Atreides and explore the complex legacy of his empire.
Filming is set to begin later this year, with the Creative Media Authority Abu Dhabi (CMA) and Abu Dhabi Film Commission providing essential logistical support. Image Nation will serve as a production partner.
This upcoming chapter of Dune Saga, a continuation of the Academy Award-winning franchise produced by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, will also benefit from the cashback rebate offered by the Abu Dhabi Film Commission.
Abu Dhabi has served as the backdrop for more than 180 major film and television productions through the introduction of the cashback rebate, including F1 The Movie, Mission: Impossible, Star Wars, Fast & Furious, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Netflix titles 6 Underground and War Machine. These projects highlight the emirate’s diverse locations, skilled talent pool, and attractive filmmaking incentives.
The Creative Media Authority (CMA) plays a pivotal role in nurturing Abu Dhabi’s content creation ecosystem. Its mission is to champion content creation by empowering creators through strategic guidance, talent development, financial support, and a world-class regulatory environment. CMA was established to ensure the right ecosystem exists for content creators to thrive.
The Authority oversees strategic organizations and initiatives within Abu Dhabi’s creative industries, including Image Nation Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, as well as training and development programs such as Creative Lab and Arab Film Studio, strengthening the emirate’s position as a global hub for filmmaking and content creation.
