Al Ain: The Al Ain Dates Festival has commenced in Al Ain and will run until January 8, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court.
The festival opened with a strong start, receiving 2,025 kilograms of dates from 27 participants competing in the “Elite Al Ain” category. Additionally, 600 boxes, amounting to 2,000 kilograms, were showcased in the date auction, drawing significant interest.
Organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, Al Ain Dates Festival underscores the cultural and historical importance of the palm tree as a symbol of Emirati heritage. It also strives to highlight Al Ain’s historical importance while encouraging its cultural, economic, and agricultural potential.
Dignitaries at the event included Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority; Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development, Abu Dhabi; and Abdullah Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority. They were joined by prominent figures from Al Ain and executives from various sectors of the Authority.
The festival features seven distinct date competitions celebrating varieties like Al Ain Elite, Khalas, Fard, Dabbas, Bumaan, Sheeshi, and Zamli. Participants will compete for 70 prizes valued at $4,78,083 (AED 1.756 million).
Visitors can also experience a vibrant date auction, explore reliable date shops, and enjoy the charm of a traditional market, further engaging themselves in the UAE’s rich cultural legacy.
