Sharjah: 16 ex-football stars from around the world will be in Sharjah from 12th to 14th January to compete in an exciting padel-tennis tournament at Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort & Spa and to kick off the Sharjah International Footgolf Tournament.
The football players including the renowned Brazilian goalkeeper Mr. Nelson de Jesus Silva (DIDA), the Dutch midfielder Mr. Clarence Seedorf, and the Italian striker Mr. Francesco Totti, who is still the leading goalscorer and player with the most caps in Roma’s history will travel to Sharjah. Mr. Diego Fuser,Mr. Beppe Signori, Mr. Ibrahim Ba, Mr. Enrico Annoni, Mr. Stefano Eranio, Mr. Donadoni, Mr. Cristian Zaccardo, Mr. Luca Antonini, Mr. Massimo Oddo, Mr. Cristian Brocchi, Mr. Sébastien Frey, Mr. Dario Marcolin, and Mr. Costacurta are just a few of the other well-known celebrities that fans can expect to see.
The Sharjah International Footgolf Tournament is hosted at the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club and is the first event of its kind in the region. It is sponsored by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) and Air Arabia have invited the football stars in an effort to promote Sharjah’s events, highlight the many alluring tourist destinations the emirate has to offer and promote the exchange of cultures through sports like padel-tennis and footgolf.

Mr. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the SCTDA, remarked that, “In the Emirate of Sharjah, the government is committed to organizing and hosting events that align with the overall development goals of the region, address the needs of the community, and promote healthy and enjoyable lifestyles through sports. This is in line with the vision of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who emphasises the importance of improving individuals’ health and quality of life. The SCTDA is dedicated to implementing this vision in all of its initiatives, programs, and projects. One example of this is the recent Sharjah International Footgolf Tournament and Padel Tennis tournament, which were held in partnership with Air Arabia and the Sharjah Sports Council.”
“Through the tournament, the Emirate of Sharjah will host ex-football stars with their fan base and supporters, and bring together local players with their international counterparts to compete in engaging sporting events. We aim to promote awareness of the Emirate’s global leadership position in terms of tourism and culture, which is a result of the wise leadership’s ongoing commitment to development, economic sustainability, and investment in people,” Mr. Al Midfa further added.
